Today is one of those Momentum Monday episodes that you’re going to want to take notes on. There are some really important nuggets in here that you’ll want to keep in mind and share with your team.

Look, I’ve been in business for a long time and I’ve seen a lot of people come and go. But, I’ve also seen a lot of people get stuck and stay stagnant. These are the people that everyone else passes. There are a lot of reasons for that. There are also some truths and principles, that if you understand you will become hard to pass and extremely hard to compete against.

I’ve titled this episode Separating Yourself From the Pack for a reason. Most people never separate themselves from the masses. Most people always try to fit in because it’s way more comfortable to fit in with everybody else. I think most people prefer to relate to the middle-class mindset. These are the people who like to talk a lot about the weather, their kids and just surface-level things. This is because very few people in the masses live a purpose-driven or goal-oriented life. Very few people live with their goals at the front of their mind, and if they do, they eventually move to the next level and don’t stay as part of the pack for long.

If you’re doing the things that I’m talking about you will not stay a part of the pack for long.

There are some things that you need to understand if you want to get to that level. This is going to be one of my favourite posts, and I don’t want to delay any longer, so let’s get right into it. If you’re sitting down, take out your notepad.

10 Secrets Your Competitors Don’t Want You to Know

  1. If no one teaches you, you still have to learn it.
    Never wait to get information. You need to be resourceful. Why would you ever wait for somebody else to get you the information you need?

    There are a lot of people out there that buy all these courses, and they think that they need one more tool or one more seminar. They’re trying to find the secret to success. They are looking at all these people online that are making thousands of dollars talking about things that they don’t know about. They’ve got masses of people buying it up because they feel like they need more information.

    Look, you need to learn it, even if no one teaches you. It’s your responsibility. Do you want to learn how to do a podcast? Do it. You go learn how to change your body. You go learn how to increase your income. Stumble forward and stay confused. Stop waiting for somebody else to give you the information you need to be successful. It’s crazy. Most people never even move past this point, and that’s why most people don’t win at a high level.
  2. How you treat your body is how you treat every area of your life.
    It’s about doing things with a purpose. You can run from your health, but you can’t hide. Having the identity of an unhealthy person will eventually catch up to you. You can’t have a thriving business or relationship or faith and treat your body like shit – pardon my language.

    You are never going to hit your max potential if you don’t prioritize your health. Look, if you’re shortcutting your own body that’s going to show up in other areas of your life. You don’t have to become a marathon runner or a track-and-field Olympian, but you have to feel like you’re moving forward with your health. You have to understand that how you treat your body is showing up in other areas of your life.

    I know because I’ve been there. I went through phases of my life where I wasn’t treating my body very well and guess what, I had moderate success in other areas, but I always found a way to bring myself self back down to average. If you want to be extraordinary, you need to understand that you have one body and one life and how you treat it is showing up in all the other areas whether you accept it or not.
  3. Action and effort follow mindset.
    Business is 80% mindset and 20% skill set. I even would say that life is 80% mindset and 20% skill set.

    You might go through phases where you’re saying to yourself, man I feel lazy, or I feel unmotivated, or I don’t have the tools. What you’re telling me is, your mindset sucks. What are you doing every day to improve your mindset?

    It’s one thing to go to the gym every day and work out your body, but the most important muscle that you can work out every day is your mind. Are you going to the mental gym every day? Or, have you taken the month off or the year off? If you’re wondering why you feel stuck, insecure, and why you lack belief – man, what do you expect? Nothing will change until your mindset does. Action and effort always follow mindset.
  4. Self-confidence is the promises you keep to yourself.
    I remember when I first heard this from Tony Robbins on a YouTube video a long time ago. He said that most of us break the very first promise that we set for ourselves every single morning when our alarm clock goes off, and we hit the snooze button. We tell ourselves that we will get up at 6:30 or 7:00 or 7:30 and we don’t do it. Every single morning, we break the first promise we made with ourselves.

    Confidence is self-love. If you can keep the small promises and set yourself up to get small wins throughout the day, your self-love and self-confidence will increase. Take a look at the little things like waking up when you say you will and going to the gym. You know, going to the gym is one of the best ways to keep a promise to yourself.

    How about managing your calendar? Everything should go on your calendar, and you should do everything that you put into it. Set yourself up to win small promises throughout the day, throughout the week, the month and then the year. That’s the key.

    You don’t need another spray tan. You don’t need another self-help seminar. If you don’t keep promises to yourself, it doesn’t matter what you do. Nothing is going to change. You could change everything about yourself — but if you can’t get out of bed on time, if you can’t put things in your calendar and do the things that you say you are going to do, nothing is going to change.
  5. Learn to be happy, fulfilled and dissatisfied.
    Stop waiting to be happy.

    How many people have you heard say: as soon as I make a hundred grandas soon as I get the job of my dreamsas soon as I find the right girl…as soon as I get into the right situation or travel…I’ll be happy.

    You’ll never be happy if that’s your mindset. You’ll never be satisfied because enough is never enough. That’s a middle-class mindset, a broke mindset. People ask me, “when is enough, enough?” Man, I’m after growth. I’m after contribution. Enough is never enough. Even still,  I’m happy, I’m fulfilled, and I’m dissatisfied because I’m always craving more. I’m not just happy now because I’m making a bunch of money. I was always happy. I was always fulfilled. Yet, I’m still dissatisfied.

    Pushing yourself to want more, while being grateful with a full heart is a deadly combo.

    A good friend of mine, some of you may know him is Gregg Strynadka. He’s probably the best at living out this principle out of anybody I’ve ever met. This guy is building an unbelievable business, and he is super hard to compete against because he’s always so happy and fulfilled, but I know he’s dissatisfied. I know that things are going on that he’s frustrated with and that he wants more.  He’s a beast, he’s always winning at a high level, he’s continually growing, and I love competing with him or trying to compete.

    Don’t compete with people that are just happy all the time and don’t compete with people that are only dissatisfied all the time. That cheapens you. You should be competing with people that are happy, fulfilled and dissatisfied — those are the beasts.
  6. Gratitude is the antidote to literally everything.
    My mentor, Ed Mylett, told me this a while ago. It’s impossible to be fearful and grateful at the same moment.

    Do you practice gratitude? Because your competitors don’t. Your competitors might say that they do, you might even say that you do and I might say that I do – but do we genuinely practice gratitude? Because how are we going to get more, if we’re not even grateful for what we have? Are you that person in people’s lives or that person in the office that walks around moping? Do you always hold on to your good news and withhold from sharing what’s going on in your life? If you don’t add any value to people’s lives, you’re one of those people that aren’t grateful. You’re not competing with those people either. Competing with those ungrateful people in business is like passing a family of ducks on the highway in your Ferrari. Don’t associate with those people and don’t be that person. Operate with gratitude.
  7. Own your weaknesses, or they will own you.
    Own it, we all have weaknesses.

    The most successful people I know have the highest levels of self-awareness around what they’re not good at.

    If you need help in areas — get it! If you need help on the administration side of your business or, if you need help becoming a better leader – you have to figure it out. The only thing standing in your way is your ego.

    When my ego gets in the way that’s usually when I’m blind to my weaknesses, hey, we all have things we need to get better at, we all have things in areas of our lives that we need to improve on. You need to realize what those are for you.
  8. Balance is about getting rid of things – not adding.
    First of all, when you’re in balance, you’re standing still. People that are on the move are never going to be in balance.

    Let go of things. Stop picking up emotional baggage. You don’t need this project and that project — you need to get rid of things and distractions. Most people I know have four credit cards and four gym memberships. What do you need four gym memberships for? Get rid of the unnecessary things in your life.

    Everything that you choose to hang onto should be in line with your purpose. Make a list of the things you’re hanging on to. Take a look at your list. Are the things you’re paying for, the things you’re doing, and the people you’re surrounding yourself with each day in line with your purpose? If not, let them go.

    We don’t just need to move forward in life; we need to move up. People move forward all the time. Moving forward is a horizontal move. You need to move up. Up is a vertical move don’t forget that
  9. People who don’t pursue their dreams will not help you achieve yours.
    Are you aligned with people that are on fire and after their dreams? Are you hanging around people that have dreams, goals and a plan? Or, do you hang around the same people you’ve been hanging around for the past 5, 10, 15 years because you went to high school with them. Or, they’re your family, so you’re supposed to hang them.

    I have no problem dropping people in my life that aren’t getting after their dreams. Eagles fly with eagles and ducks hang with ducks. If somebody’s not living a purpose-driven life, are they adding value to your life or are they taking it away? If the people you surround yourself with are not willing to go after their goals and dreams, what makes you think that they will help you achieve yours? They won’t.
  10. Are you interested in winning, or are you obsessed?
    Are you playing games or are you the game changer? 90% of your competitors are interested in playing games, only 10% are obsessed, and only 1% of that 10 % will develop, maintain and grow the mindset needed to go the distance.

    Most of the people that you’re competing with will not go the distance because they will not grow their mindset to the next level. I know a lot of people that get to a certain level, and then they stop and repeat this cycle because they never developed the mindset they needed. They were obsessed for a short time, or some of them never got obsessed, and they’re stuck with their mindset. Don’t be that person.

    By listening to podcasts like this, I already know that you’re one of those people that are interested in growing your mindset and moving to the next level.
